Things that make me go "Huh?"

  • The president wants no child left behind educationally, yet is willing to leave four million children behind and outside of a federalized healthcare system (a system that he and members of Congress are insured with) for fear that some children who could afford private insurers would dip into public coffers for their healthcare.
  • When Iran's president Ahmadinejad (yesterday at Columbia University) soft-pedaled about the Holocaust, said no one's denying it, but as any other historical event, why shouldn't it be subjected to more scrutiny?—he was scathingly and publicly insulted by the moderator (the university president). Meanwhile, our own president soft-pedals global warming, says no one's denying it, but like any other theory it needs some "sound science" applied to it.
  • The state of California (with 11 other states) is trying to enact rules that would cut global warming pollution from new motor vehicles by nearly 30 percent within the next decade. The current administration's response—according to emails between DOT staffers and the White House released yesterday—has been a concerted, behind-the-scenes lobbying campaign among congressional offices and other governors to undermine California's plan.
Huh?

Amen - especially on that first point! What makes no sense to me is that public schools and health care are both social services that are not generally considered basic human rights by the ultra-conservative, so why exactly is a Republican president SPENDING MORE MONEY on STICKING THE GOVERNMENT'S NOSE in a SOCIAL SERVICE. Sounds like everything that the Reps blame the Dems for to me.
